This week saw the revelation of yet another grooming gang scandal, another City added to an ever growing list as the gang rape epidemic continues to sweep across England.
Following a 2 year inquiry commissioned by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, into the historic failings of police and social workers, a report published this week concluded that vulnerable girls in care were groomed in “plain sight”.
At least 57 young girls were thought to be exploited by a paedophile network of around 100 suspected perpetrators based in South Manchester in the 2000s. The gang hooked their victims on drugs, groomed, and sexually abused them. Victoria Agoglia aged 15 died after being injected with heroin.
These rape gangs are time after time left free to roam our streets and in this case it has been claimed officers were told to “find other ethnicities to investigate”.
The report added that officers were aware of many community issues around policing in South Manchester in 2002 and 2003. It would appear the fear of race relations and community cohesion were seemingly more important issues than upholding the rule of law and providing protection to young vulnerable girls.
Maggie Oliver Ex-detective of Greater Manchester Police and whistle blower on this whole sorry affair has spent 15 years of her life fighting to expose the poor handling of the Rochdale child sex abuse ring by her own force. The personal cost has been high she lost her job, her house and her health has deteriorated. Yet still she remained fully committed to seeking justice for the girls stating:-
“These are not mistakes – these were deliberate acts to bury and ignore the abuse of many, many vulnerable children…where is the accountability?”.
There are also brave girls, survivors of these monsters, who are willing to speak out – a particularly powerful article was published in the Independent Online in March 2018 telling the story of of Ella Hill (pseudonym).
She stated:-
“As a Rotherham grooming gang survivor, I want people to know about the religious extremism which inspired my abusers.
Grooming gangs are not like paedophile rings; instead they operate almost exactly like terrorist networks, with all the same strategies. Like terrorists, they firmly believe that the crimes they carry out are justified by their religious beliefs”
They made it clear that because I was a non-muslim, and not a virgin, and because I didn’t dress “modestly”, that they believed I deserved to be punished”. They said I had to “obey” or be beaten.
Fear of being killed, and threats to my parents’ lives, made it impossible for me to escape for about a year. The Police didn’t help me.
In November 2017, the Swedish Government held a meeting where they stated that “Sexual violence is being used as a tactic of terrorism”, and as such, it was recognised as a threat to Sweden’s national security. The link between terrorism and rape undertaken by Islamist gangs was not being ignored. They called for counter-extremism education.
Grooming gang crime is upheld by religious extremism. Like Sweden, we must officially recognise this, and work to curb extremist preaching.”
