Meghan Markle has been accused by her half-brother of lying about who paid her university fees. Thomas Markle Jr has accused Meghan of telling a “straight out lie” when she stated that she paid for her own university’s tuition fees. Meghan claimed she did this through part-time jobs, scholarships and her own hard graft, just like the vast majority of those who go through the university system worldwide, some may ask why this was praised so universally initially.
Thomas Markle Jr has corroborated his father’s previous claims Meghan didn’t fund her own studies at Northwestern University. Markle Jr said: “The only thing I want to call her out on is lying on stage when she did that little… I don’t know what country it was, but she was talking to a bunch of people telling them how with hard work and discipline and a job you can put yourself through college like I did. Now that was just a straight out lie. My dad paid every nickel for her college”.
During Meghan’s visit to the University of the South Pacific on October 24, 2018, as part of her first abroad royal tour she said: “As a university graduate, I know the personal feeling of pride and excitement that comes with attending university. I am also fully aware of the challenges of being able to afford this level of schooling for many people around the world – myself included. It was through scholarships, financial aid programmes and work-study where my earnings from a job on campus went directly towards my tuition – that I was able to attend university”.
Meghan’s half-brother claims that their father has “all the receipts” to back up his claims and added, “for her to do a public lie about that, that hurt my dad’s feelings as well, and that is why he is coming out and doing interviews and stuff like that because he wants the truth out there”. Few people are likely to begrudge Meghan her father’s financial assistance although her the virtue signalling twinned with the accusations of lying about her journey towards royalty are not likely to impact her public image positively.
