Controversial Labour MP Naz Shah is the representative for Bradford West. In April 2016, Shah was suspended from the Labour Party after being accused of antisemitism after it was reported that she had in 2014, prior to becoming an MP, shared a satirical map from Norman Finkelstein’s web-page. Following her apology, she was reinstated in July 2016.
She has also been accused of ‘liking’ a tweet that said White girls should keep their mouths shut for the sake of diversity over the grooming gang scandal. She has slammed the Tory Party over their failure to tackle what she perceives to be ‘Islamophobia’.
Recently she also rushed to the defence of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar over Donald Trump calling her out over her supposed lack of patriotism. She has now made a statement on Twitter, over the victory of Boris Johnson, and has now been roundly mocked for her comments as happens with most of her tweets.
Shah said:
“Fewer than 100,000 Tories have elected a bigoted, sexist and frankly a disastrous individual as Prime Minister. This appointment is neither reflective of modern Britain, nor democratically representative of our nation. #BorisJohnson”
The tweet has since been ‘ratioed’ which means that more people have commented than liked or retweeted. It has also had tens of thousands of engagements with the vast majority ruthlessly questioning and mocking her.
Some of the comments in response are:
“What about those pesky little white girls being raped and telling us without your permission? You use the word racism as a foil, you ignore what groups of men have done to vulnerable little girls, and you expect us to listen to your rabid rants? Corbyn was voted in by less pixie!”
“Given the state of the Labour party at this moment in time I would say your priorities are all wrong Ms Shah . Labour is unrepresentative of the majority of people living in the UK .”
“Political correctness is collapsing Naz, so what are you going to use as “points” when it finally does? We’ve all had enough of it. It won’t work anymore.”
There have been questions over whether Shah even writes the tweets herself or it is her communications team and she joins a long list of politicians and twitter ‘celebrities’ who have not taken the news of Boris Johnson becoming PM very well.
