Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party delivers a CRIPPLING BLOW to the establishment

By Oliver Down – UNN’s Current Affairs Correspondent

Following the emergence of the results for the 2019 European parliamentary elections, the words on everyone’s lips is Brexit and the Brexit party. The Conservative party polling fifth will come as no huge surprise to many. Norman Tebbet of the telegraph is today suggesting that ‘This Tory humiliation would never have happened if Mrs May had honoured her promises’. Had Mrs May honoured her promises these elections would never have happened, and Nigel Farage would not have romped to victory.

It would appear that Mr Farage is firmly back at the centre of British politics and firmly intends on keeping this that way.  In an interview on BBC Radio 4 Mr Farage took a clear dig at mainstream media platforms by suggesting that ‘I know it is the job of the media to close down debate’ this clear frustration should be understood in the context of his recent interview on  the Andrew Marr show, when Mr Marr drew considerable criticism for his behaviour towards Mr Farage. Following his interview on Radio 4, Nigel Farage then tweeted that his Brexit party ‘will contest all 650 seats across the country at the next general election’. A defiant Mr Farage is pulling no punches.

As of Monday, lunchtime, there are several analytical theories that are being pursued by commentators by adding the various parties together based on their policy views. However, The Brexit party was clearly the individual winner. Josh Wilson and Ashley Kirk of the Telegraph have released an article that suggests that the pro remain parties The Lib Dems, Greens, the SNP, Plaid and Change UK – got 39.1% of the popular vote. While the hard Brexit parties UKIP and the Brexit party got 33.7% of the vote collectively. This analysis interprets the results of the elections in a referendum style format.

Following the emergence of last evenings results, Nigel Farage laid a gauntlet down to the conservative and labour party suggesting that these results would be replicated in a general election if the UK did not leave the EU by the 31st of October. Mr Farage promised a victory for his new party that was formed 6 weeks ago. Not many will be betting against him to be incorrect this time.
