Muhammad Saqib Raza, 40, from Leicester, was captured by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in January as after he tried to evacuate from Syria. He is now based alongside other ISIS fighters and extremists in conditions he has described as a “hell hole”.
However in a coming storm Raza has begged Britain to repatriate him to face trial in the UK and according to reports in The Mirror he was a “victim of anti-terrorism terrorism” due to The Home Office not attempting to bring him home.
Raza holds British-Pakistani citizenship and intimated he treated his UK patients “like family” when they wanted his help and is now begging his former patients to lobby for him to be returned.
He pleaded with them: “My patients, maybe you care. I beg you, patients of mine, to help me in return for what I did for you. In fact, not even one British intelligence officer has come to interrogate me in my 419 days in a place that’s not fit for cats and dogs. Come talk to me.”
According to his former neighbours Raza left his wife and four-year-old son to go to Turkey in 2017 after becoming more extreme in his religious Islamist views, growing a beard and wearing religious clothing.
At the time he faced accusations of trying to radicalise colleagues at a number of NHS hospitals before venturing to Syria in 2016.
According to The Express Raza now claims he was kidnapped on the Turkish border with Syria before being sold to ISIS extremists and then worked as a doctor within the terror group’s territory. He said he was captured by the Kurds in Raqqa last year after escaping from ISIS.
