An 11-year-old girl and a 30-year-old woman have been left injured when a pellet gun was fired in a park in south-west London.
Police attended the scene Figges Marsh, Mitcham, at 17:40 GMT on Sunday after reports that gun shots were heard in the area. The child was hit and wounded in the leg while the woman was struck in the back. According to the Police they know one another but are not related.
Both were taken to hospital but neither is believed to be seriously hurt. Two men in their late teens, who were also thought to have been injured in the incident, went to a hospital in south London with non serious shotgun pellet injuries, the Met Police said.
Detectives are trying to trace a large group of men seen in the area before the shooting. No arrests have been made. In response to the incident the Met Police activated a Section 60 order in the borough of Merton which means unrestricted use of stop and search powers until 06:55 on Monday Morning.
This attack comes as a shopkeeper was also knifed to death in London over the weekend and criticism continues of embattled Mayor Of London Sadiq Khan who attended the ‘people’s vote’ march over the weekend where he repeated his calls for a second EU Referendum.
