As we reported recently on Warburton’s bread bearing the Halal & Kosher certified symbols social media has been set ablaze now with the focus now reaching Kingsmill Bread products as you can see in the below tweet:
There continues to be a mixed reaction to these posts on social media. Some argue that they do not want to eat products that pay to be religiously compliant while others say that there is no issue and that there is an undercurrent of ‘racism’ in these posts. What is increasingly being seen is that consumers are being more conscious about the brands that they buy and where their money goes.
One of the UNN team got in touch with Allied Bakeries, who own Kingsmill, to ask them the following:
“I am getting in touch regards the above tweet to see if you have a quote on the above tweet and if you can disclose how much you paid in order to be Halal/Kosher certified?”
According to sources:
Kingsmill has been officially certified as Halal compliant. This accreditation means that all Kingsmill bread and bakery goods with the Halal Food Authority logo are permitted under Islamic dietary guidelines. Although Kingsmill products have been suitable for Halal diets before now, the company sought official recognition to tie in with its recent packaging relaunch.
This looks set to be an argument that will continue to grow as more and more different religions expand in the UK.
