There is a scene in the sublime sitcom Fawlty Towers where Basil (John Cleese) bangs his head on the desk, sits up and says ‘No, I’m not dreaming’. That was more or less my reaction—minus the head banging—when I read that in Germany, where assisted dying is legal, that you cannot have it unless you are vaccinated or can prove you have recovered from Covid. Not content with making life miserable for the living, Germany in tandem with many other European countries, is now going to make death miserable for the dying. You could try hard, but this is one you really could not make up. I should add that I am implacably opposed to euthanasia but that is irrelevant to the argument here. The decision by the German euthanasia association is yet another indication of vaccine obsession. It is impossible to resist the temptation to say that, with the remarkable numbers of deaths from Covid vaccines, that if they insist on dying people requesting assisted death being vaccinated, the vaccine may well do the job for them.
Vaccine obsession has been with us since the start of the global panic. Anyone raising any questions, however mild or legitimate, is immediately labelled an ‘anti-vaxxer’ and, for some health professionals, being struck from their professional register. Various states have strongly and even coercively encouraged vaccine uptake. But now the vaccine obsession really has legs with a purportedly democratic European country—Austria—planning to make Covid vaccination compulsory and Germany poised to follow suit. There is an astonishing level of amnesia in the Germanic States about what happened the last time Germany followed ideas that originated in Austria which led to the deaths of between 15 to 20 million people in Europe. And now those gutless wonders at the World ‘Health’ Organisation are hinting that mandatory vaccines may well be necessary in Europe. It is not as if they have not changed their minds before, for example, on face masks and lockdowns.
Just when there was some light at the end of the international Covid tunnel another ‘worrying’ Covid variant is announced which has emanated in South Africa and a tranche of African countries is added to our ‘red list’ of countries from which travel is banned. It is hard to verify the veracity of these claims about variants. But, giving the benefit of the doubt and assuming there is a new variant, then how dangerous will it be in an economically developed country like ours where levels of health and housing are, generally, very good? The poor levels of nutrition, health care and the incredible levels of poor and overcrowded housing in some areas of South Africa are incomparable with those in the UK. Nevertheless, the convenience of another variant for the vaccine obsessed and the lovers of lockdown just could not be more convenient. It is precisely the excuse the vaccine obsessed will need to ramp up the call for mandatory vaccines and, as we limp towards the Festive Season, we can be sure the health fascists will be calling for a return to lockdown. Furthermore, Sajid (shut up and respect the NHS) Javid says our scientists are ‘deeply concerned’ and I guess that indicates that he is too. Watch this space for further bad news.
