There was terror today on Cardiff’s busiest shopping street after “threats have been made to people” in an hotel in the city centre. Police Officers were seen on edge patrolling the area with a police dog and urging people to “stay away from windows”.
Christmas shoppers were forced to leave St Mary Street while police were responding to the incident where threats were being made from an assailant in a hotel. The Police have yet to release a description of the person involved.
South Wales Police cordoned off part of the street, from House of Fraser to Oxfam clothes shop and told people to stay back. Wharton Street, some of the businesses in Morgan Arcade and shops in nearby streets have also been shut.
A Spokesperson for South Wales Police said:
At around 3.15pm today officers received information that threats had been made to people in a city centre hotel.
Staff and a number of residents have now safely left the premises with no reports of any injuries.
A police cordon is in place and a number of buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.”
Traffic chaos has ensued around Cardiff and the incident is ongoing.
