Less than 26 million licences were bought in 2018-19, down 37,000 on the previous year even though the UK population grew which has cost the BBC million.s in revenue.
It is thought more than 1.8 million households are point blank refusing to pay the licence fee which is worth around £270 million to the BBC.
Tony Hall the BBC director-general, said that changing audience habits were to blame for the collapse with more and more viewings switching to subscription services like Netflix. He did not acknowledge the political bias and unprofessional output that has seen many more switch off.
All of the BBC’s major TV channels including BBC One, Two and Four saw a drop in audience figures over the same period. Only BBC Parliament’s numbers rose, which has been put down to an increased interest in Brexit.
In the previous year the BBC made a surplus of £244 million but lost £52 million this year and as a result will be forced into cutbacks and the deeply unpopular policy of making over 75s pay for a TV licence. Many have indicated that this would push them into poverty with the TV being their only source of outside world contact and also that many are prepared to go to court over this.
This comes as according to The Sun the BBC was accused of covering up sky-high payments to its top stars.

It published the official salaries of those on more than £150,000 a year, but critics said the list ignores “secret” payments to stars made through commerical arm BBC Studios.
Yesterday’s list said Graham Norton got £610,000 for his Radio 2 show. In fact he is on more than £2million in total, with the cash for his chat show paid through a private production firm.
Strictly Come Dancing’s Claudia Winkleman was the second highest earning woman at £370,000 — but she again makes another £120,000 through BBC Studios.
Also missing from the list are the Strictly judges. Each gets more than £150,000, with head judge Shirley Ballas on £250,000.
A spokesperson for the BBC said: “All broadcasters face challenges from global streaming giants, but with 91 per cent of UK adults using BBC services at least once a week, the BBC is more than holding its own.”

The BBC is intending on scrapping the free licence for over 75s whilst continuing to pay these outrageous salaries. Not only that but they are a liberal, metropolitan, globalist machine spewing out propaganda to the masses. They are supposed to be an impartial organisation but their coverage of Brexit has been nothing less than a scandal.
People need to ditch their TV’s and no longer have a TV licence. They need to support new media like ours and the many new channels & sites filling the void. To put things in perspective Gary Lineker will easily earn more in one hour than anyone at UNN will earn in a year yet he reads from a teleprompter and creates no original content.
The licence fee needs to be scrapped entirely and then the BBC left to fend for itself in the commercial world. We guarantee you that they would collapse immediately and no tears would be shed from us or the British Public. Change is coming but it cannot come soon enough.
