Texts revealed by the Prime Minister’s former adviser Dominic Cummings show messages in which the PM brands the health secretary “Totally f****** hopeless”.
Downing Street did not deny the authenticity of the messages, however the PM’s official spokesman claimed Mr Johnson has full confidence in the health secretary.
“Our focus is not examining those specific images but delivering on the public’s priorities,” the spokesman said.
In a 7,000 word blog, Mr Cummings accuses Mr Hancock of trying to rewrite history at a select committee session last week.
Publishing what he described as “evidence” to back up his attacks on the Health Secretary last month, former Number 10 adviser Mr Cummings has released a number of screenshots of what appear to be exchanges between him and the Prime Minister.
Mr Cummings accused Mr Johnson of now publicly supporting the “fiction” that he was in agreement with the Health Secretary throughout the crisis.
The PM’s former top aide also takes aim at Mr Johnson, claiming that he had also “lied about failures” during the government’s initial response to the pandemic and refused to admit to the public that herd immunity was a route the government was wanting to go down.
Prime Minister Johnson’s official spokesman said he was “not going to be drawn on these claims”, adding that the PM has “worked very closely with the health secretary and continues to do so”.
