Police will NOT charge Asian taxi driver following bigoted hate-filled rant

Lancashire Police have confirmed that they will not be looking to charge an Asian taxi driver made a video with a racist rant that made threats to rape Christians who had transformed from Islam. Mr Zaheer Hussain who is 41 was arrested by police on suspicion of religiously aggravated harassment following the video was widely circulated. Mr Hussain subsequently apologised for the incident.

In addition to this, four additional men voluntarily attended at a police station and were questioned under caution in connection with the incident. However, following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), it has been decided no further action will be taken. The CPS has decided against pressing charges because the video was initially posted into a private WhatsApp group with a small membership.

When asked for comment, The Chief Inspector of Lancashire Constabulary Steven Sansbury said “I fully appreciate the distress and public interest that this video caused and have been determined to make sure a robust and thorough investigation was conducted, and all possible offences that may have been committed were considered. We are absolutely determined to tackle all crime motivated by hate and prejudice and I would urge anyone who has been a victim of a hate crime to have the confidence to come forward and report it to us. We will always deal with victims of hate crime professionally and sympathetically and do everything we can to both support them and seek justice wherever a crime has been committed”. This statement may come across to the wider public as offering very little serious explanation.

BlogPreston reported that, following 1,000 people signing a petition, Mr Hussain surrendered his hackney cab drivers’ licence. However, the Pakistan Christian report claims to have uncovered a clipping from the Lancashire Post dated 03.04.07. The clipping reads “DEEPDALE: A taxi driver has been convicted of assault and criminal damage after a trial at Preston Magistrates Court. Black cab driver Zaheer Hussain, 30, of Deepdale Road, will be sentenced for the offences on April 20”. The name age and location and occupation are a perfect match for Mr Hussain who made the recent hate-filled rant. If this crime was indeed committed by Mr Hussain, many will ask questions as why his hackney cab licence was not terminated immediately then.
