Many people on social media have questioned whether Treason Laws need to be looked at again over what for many appears to be British Politicians and establishment figures colluding with foreign powers to overturn democracy.

We have spoken exclusively to Tomaz Slivnik, a long time supporter of Britain’s independence to find out why he made this petition, the Government’s intransigence and what he hopes it will achieve.

Tomaz, can you tell us a bit about your background and why you launched this petition?

I grew up in Slovenia, which at the time was a part of the communist Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia then was much the same as the EU is now – an artificial union of different peoples, with very different cultures, different languages, different work ethics, different economies, with a nominal but toothless elected parliament, and a non-elected all-powerful executive which made all the laws. By the time I was born, the mass murder of the rich and the dissidents had ended, and the people were terrorized primarily through a concept which at the time was totally alien in the West: something called “hate speech” laws. There was no freedom of speech – if you said the wrong thing, you could be sent to prison. Unthinkable in Britain – at least back then. Slovenia’s position vis-a-vis Yugoslavia was very similar to Britain’s position vis-a-vis the EU today: Slovenia was in the main (if not in fact the sole) net contributor to the federal budget, with all the other states feeding off it. At one point, the federation imposed a 100% tax on all hard currency revenues, which crippled Slovenia’s export-based economy (other states did not have meaningful amounts of exports to the West), which was one of the factors that precipitated Slovenia’s decision to leave the union. Unfortunately, in Yugoslavia, the army was controlled by the federation, and even though each constituent state had the constitutional right to leave the union, we all know what happened as a consequence – and what could also happen to Britain once the European Union acquires its own army, which it is well on its track to acquiring.

Slovenia was never an independent nation until 1991, and I’ve seen how hard independence is to obtain (and how blood has to be spilled to obtain it) once it has been lost. I became a British Citizen by choice. I am now experiencing a distinct sense of deja vu and I hate to see what the EU (with the help of domestic quislings) is doing to Britain. I’m not sure most Brits, who have never had the experience of living in an unfree vassal state, fully appreciate how serious what is going on is.

I have launched this petition because, in common with at least 17.4 million British Citizens, I do not want Britain to lose its independence and I want to do my bit towards this end.

The petition was not accepted on the official Parliament Petitions website, can you tell us why?

I submitted the petition to the official Parliament Petitions web site twice, first on 4 March 2019, then, when it was rejected on 18 March 2019, immediately again with minor amendments, but it was rejected again on 26 March 2019 (NB the petitions web site’s own guidelines state that the decision should be made in a week “or less”). The first time, the official reason given for the rejection was that it was “defamatory”, the second time that it was “a joke”. Do you see anything in my petition which makes it defamatory or a joke? In my opinion, the real reason the petition was rejected was different from the official reason given. I think the Parliament’s Petitions Committee, which is full of Remainers, simply didn’t want to give people the opportunity to sign or even see this petition, because they knew it would be very popular. And what are they going to do, allow the passage of a law which could well put some of them at risk of being tried for treason?

It is a pretty blunt message that you have about why certain MPs should be tried for treason, would they vote for something that could harm them?

I don’t think they will vote for my proposal. But my petition, particularly if it is signed by a lot of supporters, sends an important message: the people of Britain think of those who are busy trying to sabotage the will of the people expressed in the referendum, and trying to give Britain away into vassalage to the EU, as traitors. Even if the current parliament does not approve this legislation, people will likely vote in new MPs who will. Now people like myself and those supporting my petition want to see those who have committed treason tried in a proper court of law, following a proper legal process and be given all the protections of the due process of the law. It might also be worth the MPs’ while thinking about what could happen if people see them as traitors and they deny the people the opportunity to have this view tested in a proper court applying proper laws and following proper due process.

What are the goals you would like to achieve from this petition?

Mainly, I would like the MPs to stop and think. Some of them are beyond redemption. I’m sure we can all think of a few. But some will be wavering: should we stand our ground and do the right thing – deliver the will of the people expressed in the referendum – or should we hold our nose and do what we know to be wrong and give Britain away into vassalage? I think if MPs who are fundamentally decent but are not strong enough to withstand the pressure think and realize that by participating in the betrayal they will not just be making a slight compromise, they will be committing an act which many people will see as treason – perhaps even committing an act which IS treason, possibly face prosecution for it in due course, and almost certainly be remembered by history as having been party to treason, perhaps even the worst and greatest treason in British history – maybe it will just inspire them to do the right thing. And, as we have seen, some of these votes are very close: one recent vote was won by one vote (of a convicted criminal, no less), and one vote was tied. Even awakening one MP’s conscience may end up saving the country.

Ultimately, what I want to achieve is to help ensure that the will of the people expressed in the referendum is delivered, so that treason is avoided altogether and all talk of treason and traitors becomes unnecessary, because the treasonous plot will have been thwarted.
