Deputy Met commissioner Sir Craig Mackey has been widely derided for locking himself in his car during the Westminster terror attack. It has now been revealed that he will receive a pension pot 14 times greater than that of the widow of the murdered hero PC Palmer.
Based on current earnings he is in line to receive up to £154,000-a-year when he is set to retire at the end of December. Michelle Palmer, 35, is believed to be left with £12,757 a year widow’s pension.
One former cop said: “When the public look at PC Palmer’s bravery to stop a terrorist, then the contribution of Mr Mackey they will judge themselves who deserves the most pension.”
Scotland Yard’s counter-terror chief Neil Basu, as well as the other top brass of the Met, have said the accusations against his fellow officer are “abhorrent”. Sir Craig said he remained in the vehicle with two civilian colleagues because they had no protective equipment or a radio. As acting met commissioner he was in receipt of a salary in excess of £225,000
He will avoid any potential disciplinary action when he leaves after 34 years’ service. Insp Matt Webb, of the Sussex Police Federation, said his actions on that day were unforgivable and has joined nationwide calls for him to be stripped of his knighthood.
Unity News Opinion- We are going to be understanding and say that who knows how we would act if in the situation ‘Sir’ Craig found himself. However, we would like to think that if we saw another human being about to be slaughtered any fit and healthy person would immediately jump to their assistance.
‘Sir’ Craig was no ordinary person and as a trained Police Officer who takes an oath to protect the public and his fellow officers his actions of calculated cowardice are unforgivable. He should immediately be dismissed from his role with his pension affected and stripped of his knighthood. The entire top brass of the Met, including Cressida Dick, should also go NOW!
