Six Degrees of Derangement can be exploited in perverse and devious ways

We have all heard of the 6 degrees of separation, a phenomenon well documented in science and supported by research findings that predicts each one of us is likely to be connected with everyone else through a series of intermediaries which in most circumstances number no more than six.

It is therefore no surprise that when agenda driven and cynical non-government organisations wish to shut down debate or de-platform an individual or outlet that the six degrees methodology can be exploited in perverse and devious ways. One wonders how long it will be before each of us must limit who we associate with or employ just in case they, or indeed someone else they might once have interacted with may have done or said something that could be construed to transgress whatever the latest unencroachable socio-political red lines are today. 

The trip wires are now so numerous and interwoven that any of us in the commentariat who write material for public consumption risk detonating the claymore mines of manufactured outrage at any minute, not only wounding the author but also sending shockwaves of censorious anger around the network of those connected with the originator.

Who can tell where this might end, certainly nowhere good. It seems that anyone who now dares to challenge the cloudy logic of the hysterical hyper sensitised outrage mob is instantly shouted down by a cacophony of social media ‘blue tick’ despots who use their superior reach to strongarm concessions from advertisers or revenue mediators who grow increasingly fearful of falling foul of that same oppressive groupthink.

Galileo would not have lasted ten minutes in the current climate. Imprisonment and being summoned before the Spanish inquisition for daring to question the accepted scripture is nothing compared to the instantaneous censure and online punishment beatings that can be meted out against anyone who is prepared to challenge what the mainstream blob have defined as acceptable thought.

Galileo must have experienced similar feelings to those now operating in the independent media sphere. Research, analysis and empiricism mean nothing to the outrage squad who are determined to squeeze out any thinking that does not align with their narrow agenda. It is now possible to empathise with the father of modern astronomy whilst he pondered his fate in his cell. Many of us now are imprisoned in thought cages, we know intuitively that the liberal cause want us to reject data driven research, millions of years of evolution and cold hard logic in favour of a new orthodoxy that panders to the mass appeal of utilitarian conformity.

Now and again it’s great to be in a large homogenous group. We saw one in Parliament square on 31st January this year waving Union flags. What a show of patriotism and unity that was. That group however contained a vast variety of differing ideologies, races and political views. All of the 100,000 people who were there that night just wanted to celebrate a great victory, throwing aside their minor disagreements to coalesce around one glorious cause. 

The failure of the remain insurrection was baked in at the very first instance, they forgot that the one thing any cause needs to succeed is unity. Steeped in their blame and belittle methodology they sought to isolate, atomise and suffocate the opposition but in doing so they exposed the myriad minute differences that cleave their own camp into self interested fiefdoms. From that point on they struggled to contain the internecine conflict that sapped their energy, exposed their deep rooted cynicism and revealed the shallowness of their arguments.

Liberal thought at its heart seeks to turn people into victims who can then be farmed. Like the ants that farm aphids for their sweet secretions there is a close symbiosis between two groups. In the case of the liberals however there is nothing natural in the process. The aphids never question if they are getting a good deal from their arrangement but if we here in the blogosphere break ranks and question the liberal shibboleths laid down to guide the thoughts of the masses we will be weeded out or thrown into social isolation. 

The guilt by association matrix will soon censor itself into irrelevance, targeting people through a series of tenuous links with perceived wrongdoing  might seem effective at first but the tighter this web is woven the smaller the gaps become until eventually the separation between wrong, right, guilty and accused becomes too small to discern and the paradigm collapses.

The internet was until recently a wonderful forum for people to exchange views and information but now it is increasingly becoming a battleground between agendas and ideologies. The measures some are willing to employ to win the battle will ultimately poison this bottomless well of information and whoever drinks from it will imbibe only uncertainty.
