According to the Scottish Conservative leader Jackson Carlaw Scotland is in danger of being “left behind” with Nicola Sturgeon as the First Minister due to her “damaging” agenda.
Speaking with the Express.co.uk the Scottish Tory leader said that Scotland’s “hugely diverging tax base” will result in the region losing businesses and talented people to other parts of the United Kingdom.
Mr Carlaw argued that the high tax policy will drive the people out of Scotland as they will “vote with their feet” and move to other parts of Britain where they would be taxed less.
The Scottish Conservative Party leader said: “It is potential damage to Scotland.
“In this post-Brexit economy, we want entrepreneurs to come and set up in Scotland.
“If we continue to see a hugely diverging tax base in Scotland then people who set up businesses and talented people, not the super-rich, but people between £26,000 and £50,000 who are individually paying today £1,500 more each in tax.
“People are going to vote with their feet and set up those businesses and take the most talented people to other parts of the United Kingdom.
“Scotland is in danger of getting left behind with Nicola Sturgeon.”
His comments come, as earlier this week Nicola Sturgeon backed the Prime Minister’s plan for tackling the coronavirus outbreak in the United Kingdom during an interview with Robert Peston.
Ms Sturgeon said: “I welcome the announcement on statutory sick pay.
“I don’t think yet collectively we have gone far enough.
“I have asked for work to be done within the Scottish Government to look at the advice we give to businesses, the support we can give businesses and how to make sure vulnerable people are not compromised any further.
“Also how we look at contingencies within the Scottish Government as we have been doing for no deal Brexit planning.
“To make sure we have plans in place for businesses who might get themselves into difficulties.”
She continued: “So there is a massive amount of work being done on this right now.
“We do face a situation that I do think is potentially serious but it is being taken seriously.
“I hope people across the country can take some assurance from the fact these plans are in place, they are well established and the Governments are working closely together to implement them when necessary.”
With the next Scottish Parliament election set for May 2021, the Scottish Conservative leader will be looking to prove himself and his party’s appeal in the high north of the United Kingdom.
