According to eyewitnesses three cars stormed a Rochdale estate before ‘chopping at people with machetes

Local press reports indicate that a group of men were seen smashing windows of a house on Greave Avenue, at the junction with Sandy Lane, shortly before 12.25am this morning (Wednesday). Another group of men came over in a car to try and calm them down, according to reports.

The first group of men are understood to have reacted by slashing at the men with machetes.

An eyewitness too scared to be named told the Manchester Evening News:

Three cars came onto the estate, they smashed the windows out of a house down the road. There was another car of people who came over to try and calm them down. They started chopping with the machetes.

They were getting everybody they could get at. There was no concern for anyone. They were shouting ‘you will be next’, they just didn’t care. They left in two cars and left one behind.”

There have been three gang attacks over the last few months, knife attacks. Nobody feels safe on this estate.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a ‘disturbance’ had taken place and a Spokesperson said:

Police are advising commuters in Rochdale to plan their journeys ahead of time this morning, following a disturbance that took place overnight.

Shortly before 12.25am today, police were called to reports of a disturbance on Greave Avenue, close to the junction with Sandy Lane.

Officers attended and found two injured men, who were then taken to hospital for treatment. Although they are not believed to be life threatening at this time, one of the men has serious leg injuries.

An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.

Sandy Lane is currently closed from the junction with Edenfield Road to the junction with Bury Old Road.

There are diversions in place but commuters are advised to avoid the area where possible and allow extra time for their journeys this morning.”
