Theresa May left HUMILIATED as she fails to make Brussels Breakthrough!

Prime Minister Theresa May and EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker have failed to make a breakthrough in talks over Britain’s ties to the European Union with Theresa May set to fly back again on Saturday to try and secure the deal

A spokesperson for the unelected commissioner said both leaders had nevertheless made “very good progress” in their meeting in Brussels, but declined to give more details.

London and Brussels are hoping to finalize a 20-page blueprint on their post-Brexit ties alongside a 585-page draft Brexit deal, which will outline the terms of Britain’s exit, by the end of the week.

Spain threatened to veto any blueprint that fails to make clear that negotiations over Spain’s claims to Gibraltar, a British territory, should take place directly between London and Madrid.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she hoped Spain could be placated before EU leaders plan to sign off on the blueprint and draft deal on Sunday. But, she added, “I can’t say how we will solve this issue.”

A source close to the Prime Minister has said: “The chief whip’s view is that fear of no deal will not be enough to win this one. The numbers are terrible and he needs something sufficiently different from what people currently think they are voting for in order to get this through.”

Theresa May has warned that rejecting her Brexit deal could mean there would be no Brexit at all in a House of Commons showdown just there.

The under pressure Prime Minister said:

The point that has been made by a number of my colleagues in relation to the vote that will come before this House on a meaningful vote on a deal from the European Union is very simple.

If you look at the alternative to having that vote with the European Union it will either be more uncertainty, more division or it could risk no Brexit at all.”

This comes as Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has threatened to vote against the Brexit deal in a row over the future of Gibraltar.

France has also demanded more guarantees on access to the UK’s fishing waters after Brexit which is a move seen by many as a betrayal of the Brexit vote.

EU leaders are preparing to meet on Sunday to agree the Brexit deal, which is made up of the withdrawal agreement and an outline of the two sides’ new relationship if the UK does leave the EU.
