Forgive the obtuse reference to the famous poem but someone I spoke to recently inspired me with their words and this article stems from that exchange.
I have to report that the current global situation is in line with my projections and that is not a good thing. Forever labelled as pessimist’s pessimist, when my predictions come about in real life then it is time to act – not to worry or cry or start a petition on twitter but act.
Please first disabuse yourself of any idea that the current crisis is about health, it ceased to be about health months ago, this situation has been manufactured for one reason – to challenge the dominance of the US dollar system.
Why does this matter in the UK? – simple, the ‘special relationship’ works both ways, like a spread bet, you get the gains but you’re also liable for the losses and in the case of the dollar system the UK economy is so closely aligned with it that where the dollar goes, the UK and the pound will inevitably follow in short order.
No one can help but have picked up the conspicuous phrase ‘build back better’ being interjected into the narrative by world leaders and their lackeys recently. This phrase, like most of this type of linguistic artifice is designed to be memorable, repeatable and to carry with it the ethos of the agenda and align popular thought with the intended direction of travel.
Worryingly people don’t seem to recognise that in order to ‘build back’ you have to demolish what currently exists. A cursory look at your local paper or will reveal the sad reality of thousands of small businesses going into liquidation up and down the country.
No amount of spin from politicians can overcome the basic forces of economics, much like King Canute, the tide will rise however much you command it to stop. Decimating small independent businesses is a thrust to the heart of any modern economy since it is here that true productivity exists. People who work for themselves don’t call in sick, they don’t frivolously prosecute an employer for discrimination, they work harder and longer to get things done properly – why? Because they’re in charge of their own destiny, if their service is poor then someone else will do it better and they won’t have an income – the logic is so simple that your average PPE graduate really cannot fathom it.
Politicians think everything is about rules, the more rules, the more ordered the society becomes and therefore the more smoothly it functions – wrong.
This brings me to the serious and worrying crux of my argument. If a GSCE economics student can work out the government’s policies are suicidal for the economy then they know damn well what they are doing. Too many commentators who have been rock solid in their critique of lockdowns as an egregious attack on personal liberty and have also rightly mocked the haphazard and illogical strategy to manage COVID simply seem unable or unwilling to join the last dot.
How much longer can this attack on the beating heart of the UK economy be attributed to pernicious groupthink or policy myopia? When world leaders parrot identical lines and pursue the same objectives how can that be explained other than these lines are coming from a single source?
Problematically there are too many people unwilling to see the six foot letters scrawled on the wall – the petrodollar system that has existed since the Nixon shock of 1971 is breaking apart, it has been exploited by the greedy to extract tangible goods and productive labour in return for money created from nothing on a computer screen.
That fiat currency system was working nicely but too many people have seen through the subterfuge and are now wise to the fraud and like every clever conjuring trick, once you know the secret of the sleight of hand there is no longer any wonderment.
Like any large scale fraud, the perpetrators will always try and pack up and leave town with their spoils when they sense they have been discovered but in this case the only way to conceal the malfeasance is to destroy the system wholesale so that the bewildered people are too busy trying to sift fragments of their prosperity from the rubble to concern themselves with punishing the culprits.
And this is where we find ourselves, we are being sold a ‘reset’ which in fact is a controlled demolition of our system – that system is imperfect and unfair in many respects but for world leaders to come together in unison with a cynical plan to raze that system to the ground in the hope they can cobble together a ‘fairer and more equitable’ system of top down control and regulation is simply unconscionable.
Always with these plans they are vaunted as the way forward but there are two huge problems which the politicians will not admit and the commentariat will not critique.
First – there is no honesty in the way this is being foisted upon us. The system is being undermined on purpose so it can be declared unworkable and therefore the replacement is not a choice but compulsion by means of enforced poverty. A choice is not a choice when it is under duress and the entire sorry COVID debacle is merely a mechanism to create the circumstances when people will choose to keep their Dominos pizza and Netflix in return for giving up their rights to property, freedom of expression and financial independence.
Second, it won’t work. History is littered with the remains of great planned economies that collapsed under the weight of their own bureaucracy and largesse, Soviet Russia, Cambodia and Venezuela are three glaring examples of such systems which destroyed many millions of lives. In fact every attempt at Utopia on any scale has always failed, look inside the hippy communes in the late 60’s which started with such high ideals but all too soon became oppressive and hierarchical places with their goals of peace and equality reduced to a veneer on an ugly regime.
Returning to the title I detect the possibility that the right wing small ‘c’ conservative journalists just can’t bring themselves to address the enormity of the plan that is afoot, it is simply too painful for them to admit that all they hold dear is coming to an end. They fear derision from others and being labelled with the obligatory ‘conspiracy theorist’ slur. I challenge them to construct a robust narrative that explains how entire governments with a huge cohort of analysts can’t see that they’ve set a course for oblivion and no member of that government has the courage to admit that massaged COVID statistics will no longer obfuscate a sinister and cynical objective. Until they can answer this question convincingly they are not shilling – but coping.
