Ukrainian President asks for immediate membership of the European Union

President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky,  discussed Ukraine’s membership in the European Union with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during which he asked for fastrack membership for his country.

“Also had a phone conversation with Ursula von der Leyen. Talked about concrete decisions on strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, macro-financial assistance and Ukraine’s membership in the EU,” Zelensky posted on Twitter.

Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.

Ukraine officially filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation at the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague. Peace talks are set to take place in Belarus today but there is little hope of reaching any agreement.
