A pensioner is understood to have died following an incident in South Wales. On Tuesday afternoon a woman went on a stabbing rampage at a Co-op supermarket in Pen-y-Graig Wales. A gentleman who was shopping with his wife was attacked with a knife. As of Tuesday evening a considerable police cordon remains at the scene and South Wales Police have advised people to avoid the area.
The Welsh Ambulance Service has confirmed that four people have been taken to Cardiff University Hospital and the Royal Glamorgan Hospital A spokesperson has said: “We were called today, Tuesday May 5, at approximately 1.50pm to reports of an incident on Tylacelyn Road in Tonypandy. We sent one rapid response vehicle, three emergency ambulances, two advanced paramedic practitioners and our Hazardous Area Response Team, who were supported by an air ambulance. Four people were taken by road to Cardiff’s University Hospital of Wales and the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.”
South Wales Police confirmed that a woman has been arrested and is being held in custody. A spokesman for the force said: “Police are currently in attendance in Tylacelyn Road, Pen Y Graig, following a serious incident at the location. A woman has been arrested in connection with the incident a and is in police custody.”
One local shopkeeper has said: “One person has died and another is critically ill in hospital. We think the other two will survive. I saw a man with blood dripping down the back of his head and a woman with a cut on her neck”.
