Moses Ettienne, 48, stands accused of racking up a £40,000 hotel bill after claiming to be a Grenfell survivor.
He is the 14th person to be charged so far with fraud in relation to the tragedy by claiming he was living in the tower block at the time of the fire on June 14 last year.
He also apparently went to the Caribbean on holiday while he was being put up in taxpayer-funded accommodation.
After the blaze which left 72 people dead Ettienne allegedly claimed he was entitled to food and accommodation allowances from Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
He is said to have been put up in the Park Plaza Hotel from July 9 2017 until March this year when he supposedly flew to the sun drenched beaches of Grenada where he enjoyed an all expenses holiday.
Police arrested Ettienne on Saturday at Gatwick Airport upon his return.
He appeared in the dock at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today wearing a grey top and tracksuit bottoms.
It is alleged he presented himself shortly after the fire at Grenfell Tower saying he was a resident on the night of the fire.

The Crown say that the defendant was not a resident.
His case was adjourned for a pre-trial hearing at Isleworth Crown Court on October 22. Ettienne, a UK resident of no fixed address, is charged with fraud between July 9 2017 and June 7 2018.
