You thought it was over- well, not yet

Roger Watson

Just when you thought it was safe to read the news and see little or no mention of Covid-19, it appears that the lunatics have made yet another attempt to get their hands on the keys to the asylum. At least the dynamic duo Witless and Unbalanced are mostly keeping their traps shut and Witless has even admitted that what they did by locking us all down was harmful to children. You bet it was ‘Sir’ Chris, in all sorts of ways: disrupted education; loneliness; mental health problems; industrial scale child abuse at home; obesity; and needlessly induced fear.

Now, out of nowhere, a new scaremonger variant has arrived on the scene in the shape of Dr Susan Hopkins of the UK Health Security Agency to tell us all to mask up again and avoid social gatherings. This is because, according to her figures, Covid-19 cases are on the increase which, indeed, they seem to be. But she appears not to have been told that nobody seems to be dying, that most of the hospitalised cases are there for other reasons and have merely tested positive for Covid-19, which is not the same as suffering from it. As with most respiratory viruses, the recent variants lead to milder forms of the disease and, miraculously, people seem to recover. Also, cases appear to be through the thatched roof in Scotland where mask mandates have been in place longer and with more severity than England, where cases are not as high.

Almost unbelievably, but believe it you must, the Twitter account of Professor Carl Henegan was suspended last week. The reason is that he re-tweeted a mainstream media story reporting that Covid-19 deaths had been overcounted. Carl Henegan is the Professor of Evidence Based Medicine in the Centre for Evidence Based Medicine at the University of Oxford. He has been one of the very few medical voices of reason about the pandemic who has been allowed anywhere near a microphone. Presumably his crime was to be that voice of reason which, even now in the wake of Covid-19, is something up with which the voices of doom will not put. His Twitter account (@carlhenegan) has been restored but he has had his first shot across the bows in the misinformation war.

With perfect timing, and confirming what most of us already knew, Ex-Sky and ITV News Executive Mark Sharman has come out of the media closet to describe how very early in the pandemic OfCom did issue a warning to the mainstream media not to question the government line on Covid-19. They did say that people expressing contrary views could be permitted to speak but had to be stopped if they said anything that was considered ‘harmful’ or constituted ‘misinformation’. This was as good as silencing even the most reasonable voices over, for example, lockdown. In any case, the mainstream media handled this by completely refusing to interview anyone who did not adhere to the Covid-19 narrative. Sharman is completely frank about this and even goes as far as to suggest that this was an internationally coordinated attempt to control the Covid-19 narrative by pressuring the mainstream media in what he referred to as a ‘lockstep’ (something about which I wrote in Unity News Network last year). It is all sublimely ironic given that the mainstream media has been pouring out misinformation since day one of the pandemic. I’m not a conspiracy theorist…but!
