It’s Time For Political Parties In Scotland To Put The Union OVER Their Party!

By Nick Mitchell:

On the 12th of December 2019, the SNP annihilated opposition in Scotland for the 3rd consecutive time in the UK General Election. In many constituencies it was the same old story, the SNP winning the seat because the Unionist vote was split by 2 or more parties.

There were SNP MP’s elected to Westminster with only 35% of the vote. This shows that the SNP will continue to dictate Scottish Politics under the First Past The Post System. Either the voting system needs to be altered or the parties need to adapt to the changes in Scottish Politics and acknowledge the changes that are necessary to triumph against the SNP in future elections.

It’s time for the Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Democrats to dissolve in Scotland and the ‘Unionist Party’ should be formed. A party that would stand against SNP’s anti-Brittish sentiment and attempt to give Scottish voters a real challenger to the SNP.

This would see the Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Democrats dissolve into 1 party where the focus would be to stop a Second Referendum on Scottish Independence and to keep Scotland in the United Kingdom.

This new party will make clear that the SNP don’t speak for Scotland and actually most Scots want to stay within the United Kingdom. This party would stand against and oppose a second Scottish referendum and keep Scotland inside the UK. Where it thrives most.

This may cause problems when dealing with policy issues on other matters but there will always be democratic ways to figure out which policies are liked most. The Unionist Party could support very broad supporting issues placed in their manifesto such as more funding for the Scottish Budget and other Public Services.

There could be democratic ways in which Unionist supporters could come up with policies that best help Scotland succeed in the Union other than the Union itself.

The chances of this happening are very slim as the UK wide parties are too egotistical in their efforts to win elections and refuse to step down in seats even if they are polling in 3rd or 4th. I hope this happens in the near future as I believe it’s the only way in which the SNP will lose their majority of Scottish seats in Westminster.

If this happened in the 2019 election, the results in Scotland would be as follows:

SNP MPs – 15

Unionist Party MPs – 44

Green Party MPs – 0

Brexit Party MPs – 0

SNP Vote Share – 45%

Unionist Party Vote Share – 53.2%

Green Party Vote Share – 1%

Brexit Party Vote Share – 0.5%

This would’ve been an outlandish victory for the Unionist Party in this election.
