Veterans and officers have reacted with fury after they have been banned from putting poppy stickers on their cars. It has apparently been introduced to avoid offending other charities.
Assistant Chief Constable Sean O’Callaghan announced the ban on the iconic Poppy emblem on the force’s being displayed within the forces cars of the British Transport Police (BTP). He told them it “would not be doing the right thing” by singling out one charity to support.
Many officers of the BTP are former soldiers themselves and they said the ban had “gone down like a cup of cold sick” with rank and file officers, many of whom were ex-forces.
Col Richard Kemp, a former commander of British Forces in Afghanistan, said: “This ban has the stench of political correctness all over it.”
The BTP also said it was worried the stickers were not ‘official merchandise’. Many on social media have voiced their concerns that the real reason this is being done is out of fear it could offend ‘ethnic’ communities who see the poppy as a symbol of ‘British Imperialism’.
Unity News Opinion- This is not a good time to be an honest rank and file Police Officer or serving soldier. After the scandal of the Met Police Chief who locked himself in the car during a terrorist attack to the soldier being discharged for having a picture with Tommy Robinson it is an absolute disgrace! The Poppy is a unique symbol and should be proudly worn and flown.
Within our online shop we sell a stunning range of poppy related jewellery with any profit being reinvested in our site and donations to veterans charities.
